1/11/14 Engine-17 / Medic-17

Engine-17, Medic-17 respond to the red Light district for a 64 year old female who is actively choking. Engine and Medic-17 your call is on 17 alpha and your time-out is 0106.

* We pull out and make a right onto Crenshaw , the Rookie tries to turn the siren but I quickly turn them off leaving only the lights on. *

' Dude its 1 in the morning. Nobody wants to hear that right now. turn them on when we approach a red light, no need to blast them the entire way. '

* He nods in approval and we continue to the call. *

' Rich, once we are on scene, just hang out and stay with the equipment, its late we are int he red light area and who knows what in the hell we are going to find. '

* We make our turn onto Los Alamitos from Crenshaw and I can already see the medic unit turning into the red light district. *

* We turn onto red light and I see the famous district in front of me. There are No tell Motels al around us. " Working Girls " are all around as are their customers. The rookie is 100% distracted by everything. so i just shake my head in disgust and continue to focus on finding the victim. *

* I snap my fingers right in front of his face *

' Hey kid Focus please. '

Rookie: Oh oH sorry ma'am this is all new to me.

Me: How the hell long have you been an Paramedic for.

Rookie: 2 Months and a Week Ma'am.

Me: Oh Shit, Brittany Had to pick today to be sick didnt she.

* He continues to dirve forward until we reach the address. *

" Fire.....Medic-17 is on scene. "

* I step out and the victim comes calmly walking up to us escorted by a Tall well built Man. *

Victim: Hello, I was the one who called. I was choking but im ok now I think but i need to go to the hospital please.

Me: Ok why dont you come back here and sit down. What were you choking on?.

Victim: My Dentures. I accidently swallowed them.

Man: Accidently My ass that guy forced his shit in and they broke off Dont blame yourself baby.

* Dumbfounded by what I jut saw I try and keep my composure. The Rookie has a deer in the headlights look on his face, clearly he isnt processing what just happened. *

' Ummm ok so u swallowed ur dentures, wellllll......Lets get you in the back of the ambulance here and check you out. '

" Medic-17 to Engine-17 you can cancel, we can handle. "

" Engine-17 copies Clear...break....Fire... Engine-17 is available returning to station. "

* I push our available button on the MDT and Rich finds a nice spot to flip us around and we head back for station. *

* As the patient climbs into the back of the ambulance I still try to get my mind around how she must be feeling after swallowing an entire mouth of dentures. *

' So does anythign hurt?. are you in any pain so to speak.?. '

Patient: No not really but im sure Im going to be. those dont just pass through do they?.

Me: Honestly Ive never seen that b4 so im gonna say i doubt it.

* I close the back doors to the ambulance and tune the radio to 1-Bravo for TCMC *

" Tri City Trauma, Coronado medic-17 on 1-Bravo, we are bringing in a patient, sheis approx 62 years old, has swallowed both upper and lower dentures, apparently they are not fully in tact, patient is not complaining of any pain. Vitals to follow. "
