8/6/14 Engine-17 Unknown Medical

Engine-17 respond to 31342 Dip St. 31342 Dip street for a report of a man down unknown injury, Police are also responding to this. Engine-17 your time out is 10:09 and you will be responding on Tac-1

" Engine-17 responding Fire. "

* I sit back as we travel through the lights. Looking around I start to get that wow im tired of doing this time and again feeling. *

' Guys, do you ever think of doing anything else. I mean seriously, this is very repeatitive. same calls, same people, same bullshit over and over again. '

' Hmm, No John I cant say I have ever thought of that b4. I'm pretty happy where I am. '

* My thoughts turn to my gear. I get a couple extra pairs of gloves and stuff them into my turnout pocket. I start looking out the window watching the world go by as we continue towards the call. *

* Rich makes a right onto Dip street and we see a small crowd of people around. *

' Hmm. well im no scientist but that usually means we found our scene lol. '

* we all laugh for a second as rich kills the siren and we pull up on site. *

" Fire. Engine-17 on scene. continue PD in for crowd control. Will advise on type of injury. "

* After we come to a stop I take off my head gear and step out. Brian follows out the other side along with the driver and the Captain. I walk to the back of the engine and pull out the drug kit and the Trauma bag. Brian gets a bottle of o2 and a radio and we walk over to the patient . *

' Move people. Fire Department, give us some room please. '

* We literally push our way through the crowd to the patient. *

* Tyrell and I kneel down next to the patient, he is unconscious. His face is bloody and swollen. He has a what looks to be a compound fracture of his left leg. I start to take a set of vitals while Tyrell gets an IV going. The Captain starts to get some paperwork going and interviewing the other people around to see who saw what if anybody. *

' Hey Ty, lets do a bag of Ringers and get .2 MS in just as a precaution incase he wakes up. '

* I see the guys working on the patient and I take a quick survey of the scene while the Police come blazing up full code. Within seconds there are 4 of them on scene. I walk up to the Lead PD unit. *

' Guys can you check around, from what I see here this looks to be a Hit and run. '

* I go back to my guys as the police start to move the crowd back and search for clues. *

' Where in the hell is this ambulance. they are always so damn late. '

* Brian and I start checking the man further. His femur is fractured and protruding from his leg, I look at his torso and lower torso which appears to be mis-shapen. I cut his pants off and feel around his pelvis and hips. His hip appears to be dislocated and I can feel what can only be described as a crumpled up bag of chips feeling in his pelvis. *

' Hey Cap. We need to bump this ambo to code. He has multiple fractures of his pelvis, hip and femur. '

* I get up as Brian gets his ringers hooked in and I jog over to the engine. Out of the back I pull out a duffel bag containing the PASG suit. I get back to the patient and Brian and open the duffel. *

" Engine-17 to Fire, whats the ETA on our ambulance "

* The dispatch tells me the ambulance is stuck in traffic and is 7-10 minutes away. *

" Fire.....Engine-17, Cancel ambulance and start Medic-17 on this call. "

* I walk over to Tyrell and Brian. *

' Boys, I started Jamie on this so she will be here shortly, get ready to transport please. '

" Medic-17 Responding. "

* Brittany and I start heading down Crenshaw towards Los Al. Brittany slows slightly b4 each light but continues through regardless of traffic. *

' Alright girl, settle down now. '

* I hear over the radio that our medics are coming. Tyrell and I get the MAST suit on the patient, his vitals are as stable considering what he has jus been through. we get it secured on him and I once again check his monitor. *

' Ty everything here looks good. '

* I see tyrell starting to splint his leg as best as possible over the MAST. I try and assist him when I start to hear the sirens of the medics coming up the street in the distance. *

* Brittany pulls us up behind the engine *

" Medic-17 on scene dispatch. "

* I take my headset off and step out. Brittany and I walk to the back of the ambulance and get out the brand new stretcher. it is preloaded with our med gear and a jump bag. We walk through the crowd to the patient and use the control to lower it automatically. *

' Morning guys, what have we here. '

* I watch as the Medics get the man loaded up into the stretcher and start to cart him away. *

' hey Brian are we going to follow up or no. '

' Yea john I think we are going to help Brittany out in the back. '

' alright no worries we'll see you at the hospital. '

* I hand the scene off to Jamie and start walking back to the Engine. the PD sgt comes up to me *

' John thanks for the help today. I will see you out there. '

' Of course you will Justin, be safe. '

* I climb aboard and get my radio situated back into its charger to the left of my seat and wait for Rich to climb aboard. I get my headset on and close the door. after entering the call info into the MDT I call out on the radio our status. *

" Fire....Engine-17 will be on follow-up with Medic-17. "

* Brian starts to walk with Jamie and Brittany back to the ambulance.  I get the rest of our gear and start walking back to the engine.  I put the jump bag, back into the back of the engine.  the drug box back into its spot and I close the gate.   waving to the ambulance as they pull away I get back into the engine, take my gloves off, toss them into a baggy then put them into the trash on board,  I get my headset on and close my door. *

' Im ready when you all are cap. '

* Once the patient is inside Brittany closes the doors and Brian and I get things situated. I turn the radio in the back to 1-bravo and contact Med Control through my headphones. *

" Tri City Med----Tri-City Medic-17 on 1-Bravo. We are en-route with a approx. 19 y/o male Hit N Run victim He has a broken RT Femur, Fractures to his pelvis and his hip. His pupils are unequal and non reactive we have 1 IV of Ringers with .2 MS in. He is on o2 mask wide open and vitals are stable at the moment. Medic-17 is approx. 4 minutes out code-3. "

TCMC: TCMC Copies all Medic-17 be aware our ER is currently on divert due to overflow however we will accept your patient. Medic-17 we will see you in a few minutes. you will be in trauma 2
