Engine-17 Respond to 428 Sea Otter Drive......428 Sea Otter drive for a 73 year old Male with Difficulty breathing. Engine-17 your time out is 1230 and you wil be tresponding on Tac-17

" Engine-17 is rolling "

* We pull out of the house, turn right then right again and head down TC Blvd. *

' Finally some sort of a normal call. '

* I Get my black knight gloves on and lean back n my seat as we near the street. *

' Good lord this is sucha nice area. i love it down here. '

' Right there Rich. '

" Fire Engine-17 is on scene. "

* Rich pulls us up to the house, he turns off the lights and turns on the hazard lights. I take my headset off and step out. Brian and Tyrone both get out and immediatly go get the medical gear. I walk up to the house and Ring the Doorbell. I hear a person shout to come in. I open the door and the four of us walk in. There is a man sitting in a recliner waving us to come over. *

' Hello Im John with the fire department. did you call for help?. '

Man: Yes my chest hurts so bad, I just feel bad like something big is sitting on my chest.

* I kneel down next to the patient. *

' Hi Im Brian, im gonna take care of you today. Whats your name?. '

' Steve. '

Me: Ok Steve can you tell me how old you are.

Steve: im 73 Oh my chest hurts.

Me: ok well steve lets get you hooked up here and start taking a look to see whats going on.

* Ty and I get him hooked up to the ECG, I start taking a set of vitals on him, once they are complete I look up at the Captain. *

' Hey Cap. can you do me a favor and up the ambo to 3 please. '

* He nods and gets on the radio. I look back at steve. Steve do you have a history of CHF?. Congestive heart failure?. *

Steve: yes i have CHF and COPD. but i stopped smoking 2 years ago.

Me: well its never too late to quit

* We both chuckle a bit and he follows his chuckle with a bout of congested coughing. *

' Ok Ty, lets get him on an IV of Ringers please. '

* I write steve's vitals down for Med Control. *

BP: 90/40
Resp: 16

' Steve, Can you take a deep breath for me please?. '

* He does but coughs more than he should on the top of his inhale. He holds his chest in pain. *

' Ok we'll not do that again. Steve your heartrate is pretty low, your blood pressure is low as well im gonna give you an injection of atropine. '

* I reach into the drug box, pull out a vile of atropine and draw up a syringe at 0.5mg. I hand it to Ty and he push's it into Steve's IV. I hear the siren of the private ambo company arriving. *

' Alright Steve the ambulance is here, we're gonan ge tu transported straight away. '

* After the patient is hooked up and all monitors are giving their readings I stand up and walk out to the engine. I grab the Med Control radio and help the ambulance crew into the house. They are a private ambulance company and one I have not heard of so their gear isnt exactly the ritz. Their stretcher is manual, their rig is somethign fromt he early 90's but they try very hard to keep things professional. *

' Wow guys i dont think I have ever see you around here before. '

Crew: No we are not new but we are from Rocky county. we service their area.

Me: ahhh No problem. come on in.

* I lead them into the house and set the hospital radio down next to the patient. *

* Once Ty brings me the phone I get in contact with Med base at TCMC. *

" TCMC Base.... Coronado Engine-17 on 1-Bravo. We are bringing in a 73 y/o male with Difficulty breathing. His vitals are as follows.

P: 49
BP: 90/40
Resp: 16

We have .5mg Atropine in IVP with 1 bag of Ringers TKO. We will be transporting shortly. Will advise if condition changes. Engine-17 clear. "

* The ambulance crew assited by myself and Ty get the patient loaded and John continues to get the gear left behind. We start walking towards the ambulance *

Wife: Can I ride with you plesae.

Me: sure do you have somebody to pick you up from the hospital?.

Wife: No maybe I should take my own car

Me: Good idea we'll be taking himn to Tri City Medical Center.

* Brian, Tyrell and Rich continue to help the ambulance attendants to the unit with the patient. I get the gear and start walking out to the engine. *

' Brian I'll meet you at the hospital. '

* Rich and I stow the gear into the back of the engine in its compartments. Tyrell helps to secure the patient into the ambulance then climbs aboard the engine. I step aboard and get my headset on. *

' Good job back there Ty.'

* As i watch the embulance pull away i push a few buttons ont he MDT updating our status before relaying it to Dispatch. *

" Fire.....Engine-17 will be en-route to TCMC for Paramedic Follow-up"
