1/14/14 Station-11

Station-11 Respond to the SB 305 Freeway @ Los Alamitos Blvd for an injurt traffic accident. SB 305 Fwy @ Los Alamitos.....Station-11 your Time-out is 0718 and yiou will be responding on Tac-11

* As the engine Pulls out of the station I look right then left and Fernando picks up speed. We approach the Country club exit and as we cross it I turn on the siren as per protocol. *

" Engine-11 to Medic-11 we'll park ahead of the accident. Wayne can you pull the ambulance to our right flank and block off a lane. "

* Following the Engine out of the Guard Gate I turn the siren on and we head onto the 305. I look at Karen and we both Laugh since we turn the siren off after only having it on for a moment since the entrance to the freeway is less than 300 feet from the guard gate. We head south and immediatly see the accident. *

' Well this aughta be good.'

" Fire, Medic-11.... You can show us on scene. "

' Nikki, once we are stopped can you start checking the patients out, Fern, Jacob get an inch and a half ready. '

* Ahead I see the accident, It is a 2 car accident with light smoke showing from one of the cars. One is on its side and the other seems to have the front missing from it as it has hit the center divider pretty well. *

" Fire Engine-11 is on scene, We have a 2 car accident with Smoke showing from from vehicle, As a precaution can you start us a 2nd RA and the truck please. "

* The Engine comes to a stop exactly where I wanted it to and I step out. *

" Fire Copies Engine-11.......Truck-17....Medic-17 Respond to the SB 305 freeway @ Los Alamitos for a 2 vehicle cut & Rescue......Station-11 on scene requesting. Time out 0724. "

* The Rookie comes dashing up to me. *

' did you hear it did you hear it we have a call. '

* Before I can respond he is rushign out the double doors of the ER and now is in a full sprint to the ambulance. The ER staff starts chuckling and I shake my head in shame and calmly walk out of the ER towards the Ambulance. *

" Medic-17 Responding from TCMC. "

* I get into the Ambulance and fasten my seatbelt. Looking over at the Rookie I decide its time to have a heart to heart with him . *

' Look dude, I dont know how many shifts your on with me for but let me lay down some ground rules. #1. DO NOT FREAKING EMBARASS ME!!!!. Just be cool, slow things down and relax. '

* He nods and we continue down Los Alamitos before making a Left turn onto Roswell. *

' Btw What the hell is your name anyways. '

' No problem Captain. '

* I take my headset off and step out of the engine.  I immediatly grab a pair of my latex gloves and walk over to the most mangled vehicle.  It is empty.  Both occupants are leaning against the K-rail.  I walk up to them and ask if they are ok. *

' Hey are you both the people from that car there?. '

* They both shake their heads yes. *

' Are you hurt anywhere?. '

* They shake their heads No. I look at the car and look back at them and think how lucky they are. I walk up to them and start escorting them away from the center divider over towards the RA. *

' Im a put you both here, you wil be safe here until we can more thouroughly evaluate you ok?. '

* I see Wayne and Karen heading over to the other vehicle and I start walking to the back of the engine to get the Medical kit. *

* Steve and Robert pull us out onto Crenshaw and for the first time in a While I hear the sound of the Q as we bob and weave through Traffic. I sit back and watch as the traffic is pulling to the right for once. *

' alright boys, we have a decent trip in front of us so just settle in for a while. '

* I leave my turnout coat off for now as we make our right turn onto Tri city blvd and quickly come up to speed. *

" Engine-11 from truck-17 we are approx 10 minutes out at this time. "

* I walk over to the Smoking vehicle and see No occupants are in it. I look around and still find nobody that is in clear need of help. *

' Fernando, Jacob. Get this fire out pls. '

* I start walking around and nothing comes to my sight of a further victim. I Eventually come upon a man sitting on the grassy side of the freeway staring off to space. I quickly walk up to him and kneel down beside him. *

' Hey buddy, are you alright?. Buddy?. '

* He has a blank stare in his eyes and is not responsive to my question. *

" Engine-11 Portable to Medic-11, I have a victim here he is conscious but non responsive, can you get somebody over here to check on him...Break.... Fire...Engine-11 you can cancel the Truck...Keep the 2nd RA coming please. "

* As we head down the blvd I start to get myself ready, Pulling on my turnout coat, gettin git all secured up and making sure my bonnett is in place around my neck ready to pull up in case I need to mask up. I roll my window down and catch some of the morning breeze just in time to hear the Cancellation. *

' Oh come on that is crap...'

* Dissapointed I unbutton my turnout coat, take my bonnett off and put it in the pocket of my coat before setting it on the seat in front of me. I put my headset back on and relax for teh ride back to the house. *

" Fire Copies Engine-11, Truck-17 you can cxl. Medic-17 continue in. "

* Hearing the cxl I respond back puttign us available and on the radio. *

' Hey Steve, Rob, Lets head tot he store and pick some stuff up for dinner. '

* We make a right turn on East West Interpass and start heading east towards the shopping center. *

* I quickly walk over and grab 1 line off the truck, Once its charged Jake and I walk over to the hood of the smoking car. Jake takes a look under where the latch is and pops it open, i get into position to attack and as he opens it up it turns out to be nothing at all. Just some smoke from a broken oil line dripping onto a hot manifold. I soak the engine with the hose for a moment to quash any possible ingition and then start to get the hose back ready to be reloaded. *

' Damn Jake I was hoping that was gonan be something. '

* Finally we pull up on scene. I key up my mic putting us on scene with dispatch before stepping out. I walk to the side of the rig and get the jump bag and start walking to fernanado and captain stanley who appear to have a victim for me. *

* After getting a set of vitals and looking them over I ask them if they would like to go to the hospital for treatment or to get further examined. They both decline. I nod my head and ask them to wait there while I go check on another victim. I walk up to the Highway patrol who are directing traffic and taking statements. *

Me: Hey, the 2 in the back of that ambulance dont wanna be transported, they are free to be talked to if you need to.

Cop: sounds good Nic, thank you

* seeing as how things seem to be under control, the medics have their patients, there is no fire and no rescue needed I decide to clear us. *

" Fire, Put engine-11 available on scene. we will be clearing here shortly. "

' Oh Fern, Jacob, Nikki. lets head on out. '

' you got it cap. *

* I finish rolling up the hose with Jacob, load it into the back of the truck then take off my turnout coat. Traffic behind us is such a nightmare now with all lanes still closed while the wreckers come in to clear the vehicles. I set my helmet on the seat atop my turnout coat and climb aboard. Securing my headset on I lean back in my seat and close the door waiting to clear. *

" Fire...Medic-11 is available on radio. "

* Karen and I both get back into the ambulance and start to drive away before the engine company does. Medic-17 has their victim ready to go so we decide to clear. *

' Well that was strange and completly uneventful. '
